Morehead Utility Plant Board’s System Wide Boil Water Advisory

We have been working in our system and with the Kentucky Division of Water diligently to resolve the treatment issues at the water treatment plant due to the flood waters. We are back on-line at the water treatment plant producing drinking water that meets regulatory and drinking water quality limits. We have begun to strategically flush our distribution system to push out and eliminate the contaminated water. By flushing the distribution system, we are able to pull the properly treated drinking water back into the distribution system. Once we have completed the system wide flushing, we will begin our microbiological sampling throughout the system for two consecutive days to ensure the safety of the water. We estimate continuing the boil water advisory for another 48-72 hours, pending no additional unforeseen developments. MUPB must operate and meet all criteria specified under the Kentucky Administrative Regulation Title 401 of the Energy and Environmental Cabinet Department for Environmental Protection, regarding drinking water. We will notify the public as soon as we are cleared to lift the boil water advisory. We thankn you for your patience and understanding in our time of emergency. The Public’s health and safety are our priority.
