The Public Works Department provides many basic services that affect the daily lives of Morehead citizens. Our goal is to provide efficient and reliable services that protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public and to enhance the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors.

  • General maintenance of city facilities and streets
  • Snow and ice removal on city streets
  • Storm damage cleanup
  • Leaf collection
  • Solid waste collection
  • Roadside cleanup
  • Sidewalk and gutter maintenance
  • Maintaining city’s holiday decorations, city flags, signage
  • Landscaping and mowing
  • Service on all city vehicles and equipment

New City of Morehead Trash Container Program

Each residence in the city limits will receive a 95-gallon trash tipper can as part of their current garbage rate. Additional can may be purchased for $3 per month.

All trash must be bagged and placed inside the tipper can for pickup.

Garbage will not be collected if not in the city provided tipper container.

Residences will receive their can the week of November 18, 2024. This policy goes into effect December 1, 2024.

GARBAGE CAN REGULATIONS

  • As of December 1, 2024, only trash in cans provided by the City of Morehead will be collected.
  • Tipper cans must be brought curbside by normal pick-up times.
  • Only normal household garbage is permitted.
  •  All garbage placed in tipper can must be bagged.
  • No hazardous items, construction materials, batteries, tires, paint or other non-household garbage will be collected.
  • Large item pick-up will still be available for an additional fee by contacting City of Morehead Public Works Department at 606-784-4503.
  • Tipper can lid must be kept closed at all times to prevent water and pests from entering.
  • Tipper cans must be kept clean by the residents.
  • The scattering of garbage, as always, is prohibited.
  • Tipper cans are the property of the City of Morehead and shall not be personalized, addressed, decorated or modified in any way.
  • Replacement or repair costs due to modification, neglect, abuse or destruction are the responsibility of the residents.
  • Normal wear and tear will be the responsibility of the City of Morehead.

NORMATIVA DE LOS CUBOS DE BASURA

  • A partir del 1 de diciembre de 2024, solo se recogerá la basura en botes proporcionados por la Ciudad de Morehead.
  • Las latas volcadoras deben llevarse a la acera en el horario normal de recogida.
  • Solo se permite la recolección de basura doméstica normal.
  •  Toda la basura colocada en el volquete debe estar embolsada.
  • No se recogerán artículos peligrosos, materiales de construcción, baterías, neumáticos, pintura u otra basura no doméstica.
  • La recogida de artículos grandes seguirá estando disponible por una tarifa adicional comunicándose con el Departamento de Obras Públicas de la Ciudad de Morehead al 606-784-4503.
  • La tapa de la lata basculante debe mantenerse cerrada en todo momento para evitar que entren agua y plagas.
  • Los volquetes deben ser mantenidos limpios por los residentes.
  • El esparcimiento de basura, como siempre, está prohibido.
  • Las latas volquete son propiedad de la Ciudad de Morehead y no deben ser personalizadas, direccionadas, decoradas o modificadas de ninguna manera.
  • Los costos de reemplazo o reparación debido a modificación, negligencia, abuso o destrucción son responsabilidad de los residentes.
  • El desgaste normal será responsabilidad de la ciudad de Morehead.
  • Si una lata es robada o requiere reparación, comuníquese con Obras Públicas de la Ciudad de Morehead al 606-784-4503.

Contact City Hall at 606.784.8505 or Public Works at 606.784.4503. We will send a crew to pick it up. You must let us know if you want your trash can disposed.
