National GED Day Proclamation

Monday, September 16, 2024 has been proclaimed by Mayor Laura White-Brown and Rowan County Judge Exec. Harry Clark as National GED Day. The Morehead State University Adult Education Program in Rowan County has offered free GED preparation services in the Commonwealth since 1967, and is the first county here to do so. The GED test plays a crucial role in providing individuals with the opportunity to earn a high school equivalency credential, opening doors to higher education, better employment opportunities and increased economic mobility. Morehead Parks and Recreation Department announce youth winter basketball signups beginning Wednesday, September 4- Friday, October 4, 2024. Updated 2024 Splash Pad Season Hours

Beginning on August 13, 2024 the daily Splash Pad hours will change. Monday- Friday the splash pad will be open from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday & Sunday it will be available from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Those who have a private rental reservation, will still be from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. every day. MPD Attends Governor’s Occupant Protection Enforcement Awards

On Wednesday, August 21,2024 Morehead Police Department along with law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth, attended the Annual Governor’s Occupant Protection Enforcement Awards at The Campbell House in Lexington, KY. This annual event is hosted by The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Office of Highway Safety. This ceremony recognizes law enforcement efforts to keep roadways safe. Appalachia Girl Dreaming Writing Workshops

Opportunity for Rowan County Girls in Grades 5th-12th! Young women grades 5th-12th here in Rowan County have the opportunity to participate in a series of writing workshops. This program “Appalachia Girl Dreaming” is part of the Why We Write organization. Participants can receive a $400 scholarship that will cover the costs of this new and unique writing program. Morehead 911 Earns KACP Accreditation

We are happy to announce that today, August 6, 2024, the Morehead 911 was accredited by the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police (KACP.) This accreditation is the first time MOREHEAD 911 has received this accomplishment. Only twelve 911 centers have been accredited total, and we are the only one this year, so far, here in Kentucky. Little League Baseball and Softball Teams to be Recognized at City Council Meeting

The City of Morehead and the Morehead Parks and Recreation Department are happy to announce that our Little League 10U Baseball All-Stars and 11U Softball All-Stars are both State Champions! Both teams played in their specific league tournaments to reach top honors. How to handle stray dogs in the city

Often times we have citizens needing to contact the city for a stray dog in their area. We now have plans in place to help assist in those occasions. If someone has a stray dog in their neighborhood, they may contact City Hall at 606.784.8505 during typical business hours. The hours are Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If the dog is vicious or the call happens after City Hall business hours, a citizen may call the Morehead Police Department at 606.784.7511. While the temperatures are saying summer is here, the Parks and Recreation Department is thinking about fall… sports. The Morehead Youth Football/Cheer/Soccer leagues are currently taking registrations for the Fall 2024 season. Football and Cheerleading both start for children in Kindergarten and goes up to 5th grade. Soccer may have a child who is in Pre- K (age 4 by October 1.) all the way through 6th grade.
