Mayor and Judge-Executive to hold community press conference

The City of Morehead and Rowan County are holding a live press conference on Friday, March 20, 2020, at 6 p.m. This will serve as a community update regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Representatives include Harry Clark, Rowan County Judge-Executive; Laura White-Brown, City of Morehead Mayor; Jim Hampton, Emergency Management Director and John Maxey, Rowan County Schools superintendent. Other organizations that will be represented include the Gateway Health Department, St. Claire Healthcare, Morehead State University and the Maysville Community and Technical College. All City of Morehead facilities, including City Hall, Laughlin Health Building, Carl Perkins Center, Peggy’s Place and the Public Works Garage will be closed to the public effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020. City of Morehead Facility COVID-19 Update

In the wake of the COVID-19 virus, the City of Morehead City Hall will be open to the public by appointment only beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020. City Hall employees will be available by calling 606-784-8505. All employees will report to work, but following the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), it is best to limit interaction with the public to keep all services functional. One patient from Rowan County has been tested for COVID-19. The sample was processed at the Kentucky Division of Lab Services in Frankfort. The result of that test is negative. Please stay informed by visiting the Kentucky Cabinet for Family and Health Services COVID-19 webpage at kycovid19.ky.gov. All questions should be to directed to the hotline at 1-800-722-5725. City of Morehead Facility Closures

Following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control regarding the prevention of the novel coronavirus, the City of Morehead is closing the Laughlin Health Building for public use and suspending the activity of all city sports leagues until April 3, 2020. All upstairs reserved events will still be permitted. Peggy’s Place and Carl Perkins Center reservations will not change at this time. City and Community Park recreation facilities including the playground, all fields, skatepark and basketball courts will be closed to the public until April 3, 2020. Potential COVID-19 case in Rowan County

The Gateway District Health Department, in coordination with the City of Morehead and Rowan County Judge/Executive Harry Clark, has issued the following statement: Morehead and Rowan County officials discussed the potential COVID-19 case in Rowan County. We do not have a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Rowan County.  However, testing is being performed and we will have additional information soon.
